For years, a standard pouch was PET on the outside for print and stiffness, and PE on the inside for sealing. That combination works well but cannot be recycled. MDO-PE, sometimes written MOPE, is the film that lets converters replace the PET and build the whole pouch from polyethylene.
Polyethylene is extruded into a film, then stretched in the machine direction over heated rollers. Stretching aligns the polymer chains, which makes the film:
The process is sensitive. Small changes in temperature, stretch ratio or cooling change the film, so consistent supply is important.
Biaxially oriented PE (BOPE) is stretched in both directions and is another route to all-PE packaging. The choice depends on the stiffness, clarity and puncture resistance your pack needs, and on film availability.
With rotogravure printing up to 1300 mm, solvent-less lamination and in-house slitting, we can run MDO-PE trials on your artwork. Ask about all-PE structures.
